Dear Marfleet Primary Academy Parents and Carers,

Increase in school meal costs

You will recall we wrote to you last year to explain that over a period of time school meal prices would increase as they are currently heavily subsidised by both our school budget and the City Council. The first increase took place in January 2019, however, it was explained that this would have to happen again and the price of a school meal would increase in stages.

We are now writing to tell you that from the beginning of the new term, January 2020, the price of a school meal will increase to £1.50 per meal. This is for all pupils in Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) at our school.

We understand that there are a number of parents / families who are entitled to free school meals but do not claim them.  We would strongly urge you to do so and are happy to help you find out if you are entitled to free school meals for your family.  Please call into school and speak with Miss Wilson or Miss Hunt who will be happy to help you.  All you need to provide is your NI number and we will help you do the rest!  Even if your child is of Reception age or in Years 1 and 2 it is imperative that you register your entitlement now.

We understand this may not be a popular decision and we would assure you it has not been taken lightly.  However, we have to make difficult choices to ensure that our school’s funding is used in the most effective way for all of our children as we prepare them for the next steps in their education.

Kind regards,

Hull Association of Primary Headteachers
